A couple of weeks ago the United Church of Colchester ventured back into in-person worship. It was a small step, but a step nonetheless.
.
We are going to do it again tomorrow. It is not a perfect situation, but it was, and will be tomorrow, in-person worship.
What you can't see from this photo is that I was standing behind 36" high plexiglass to preach and pray. You also can't see us singing, because we didn't. I could see some smiling eyes, but no actual smiles. For all you know, they are all saying "cheese" -- though they aren't since I wasn't smart enough to think of that when I took this picture.
On Friday the Governor of Vermont declared that we all should wear masks in public, so this will continue for a while.
We are trying. We are trying to be the Church in this strange and dangerous time. Contrary to what some are claiming, it is good and right for us to wear masks, in church and out in public. It is a way for us to love our neighbors. Period. It is a way for us to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly.
What Must I Do?
It is not far from you
the word is in your mouth and heart
If called
answer the call
When in doubt
do justice and love kindness
R.E.W.
Thank you for wearing masks!
Peace be with you!
